About Me

My name is Patrick Jones. I’ve been a reader for as long as I can remember. From the time I was young, I would totally lose myself in the worlds of great stories. Over the years, my library has only grown larger and it will continue to do so.

I began my reading journey with classics. The Three Musketeers, Great Expectations, The Time Machine, The Chronicles of Narnia, and so many more. Then I read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Like many, many others, this series changed my entire outlook on what writing can be. Tolkien remains the gold standard in writing to me. However, I appreciate many writing styles.

As I grew older, I began to write some of my own work. This is mainly just a hobby and gives me a way to practice and learn storytelling to a better degree. The understanding of a story and what the author is trying to do with it requires practice. I’m constantly working on my understanding of the bones of a story, the structure, and how these can be manipulated by great writers. Because of this, reviewing other people’s works has become somewhat of a passion of mine. This required me to learn to think deeply about stories and figure out not just whether I like them or not but also why I like them. Giving a review that says something is “cool” doesn’t actually say very much. It’s important to understand why it gives that feeling.

This site will be dedicated to reviewing independently published works from smaller creators and writing my own thoughts on writing and storytelling in general. My hope is that this draws more attention to works that are created with passion and skill that may otherwise be overlooked as well as helping authors see their own work through a different viewpoint. This process will be helpful to myself in learning how to craft great narratives and I plan on adding my own writing to this page at some point in the future.

I look forward to writing reviews, breaking down stories, and growing together with a community in learning greater writing technique. If you have any works that you’d like to call attention to, please email me in the contact page. I am just one person doing this as a hobby. So as of now, I can’t promise to get to it quickly. However, I am always interested in finding new authors and books.
